Just trolling through my music collection trying to pare it down – see, Anna’s got a 30gig ipod and wants all the latest music on it, but doesn’t want to have to think about loading it, so we just have it auto-sync everything. The problem is that we’ve got 60-70 gigs of music on the drive(s), and all of it obviously won’t fit. It’s a rather humorous problem to have – to pare your “daily” music collection “down” to just 30 gigs. I think of how many physical cds that is, and it really makes me laugh that I take having so much music in my pocket for granted. But I do. I’m not going to dwell on it here.
But it has made me look at some of the fantastic music that I haven’t even really had the time to listen to at all or more than a cursory once-over.
Right now I’m listening to Great Northern’s “Trading Twilight For Daylight.” I don’t know how I’d recommend it – it’s kinda indie-pop, but in a rather non-threatening way. I discovered them from a podcast I listen to, but haven’t given their album the complete attention I should.
Speaking of which, I’ve had the new Wilco cd, “Sky Blue Sky,” for at least a month now and I haven’t heard more than one song. What the hell is wrong with me?! I can’t even say I’m not digging it because I haven’t listened to enough of it to not dig!
At this moment I’m now listening to Tegan and Sara’s new album, “The Con,” which is kinda cool – not sure if I like it or not…. I need to listen to it more. Sound familiar? And what’s more, I’ve got a half-dozen albums queued up to listen to. What’s up with that?
It really is an enviable problem – too much music to listen to. I’ll certainly take that over the alternative.
Does this seem unfocused? That’s my musical place right now – like some weird kind of audio ADHD. Welcome to my world.
